Build an Ant Empire is a colony tycoon: you roll ants from the Ant Queen, put them to work on a food tree, and sell what they bring back. Every system in the game feeds that one loop, so the faster you understand it, the faster you grow.
The core loop
- Roll an ant. Talk to the Ant Queen and press Roll. She lays an egg that lands on a podium showing the ant's name, rarity and price.
- Buy and place it. Your first Common Ant costs $45. Carry it into an empty slot in your nest.
- Let it work. Placed ants walk to the food tree, take a bite and carry it home. Cart ants haul the food to your storage boxes.
- Sell. Pick up the boxes and hand them to the merchant ant (the one in the hat). Food becomes Cash.
- Reinvest. Spend Cash on upgrades, better ants and more nest space.
The tutorial walks you through one full loop and then hands you a Normal Speed Jelly and a few early rewards.
Your first 15 minutes
- Expand the nest right away. The first floors cost $50 and $800. More floors mean more slots, and slots are what limit you early on.
- Unlock slots as soon as you can afford them ($50–$2K at the start). An empty slot earns nothing.
- Upgrade Egg Rolls once. Two eggs per roll doubles your chance of seeing something better than Common.
- Claim Playtime Rewards and the daily reward. They include cash, jellies and sometimes an ant — some players get a Flying Saucer Ant (Mythic) this way.
Replace, don't hoard
Uncommon ants like the Golden Ant ($1K–$1.8K) and Venom Ant ($800) beat Commons immediately. Rares such as the Big Head Ant ($20K) and Wheel Ant ($40K) are the next jump. Use Equip Best to sort your strongest ants into the nest automatically.
Leftover ants are not useless: feed them to the Resource Converter ($100K to unlock) for jellies and potions instead of throwing them in the trash.
Don't sell at a bad price
The merchant's price multiplier changes about every 20 seconds, from well under 1× to about 2×. Selling a big stack at 0.7× instead of 1.8× throws away more than half the value. Read the sell timing guide once you are past the first few minutes.
Say yes to free events
- Travel Snail — click it for cash until it leaves.
- Vine — climb to the top and roll ants that always get the Leaf mutation.
- Strawberry King — grab the coins on the ground and spin the wheel for potions.
- Starfall — any Event Star you roll goes to the altar in the middle of the map.
See the full list on the events page.
What to aim for next
Once you reach the millions, the game opens up: queen upgrades unlock Mythic and Exotic eggs, mutations multiply your best ants, and dungeons give pets. The upgrade priority guide covers that stage.
